µTorrent vs Azureus

Today my 256kbps connection was bad as usual. It was repeatedly getting disconnected and even while connected it was giving a maximum speed of about 5kbps download. I called up my ISP, Hathway, they were crying about some high tension lines crashing into their fibre optic line and the modems got fried. They assured me that all would be well by tommorrow morning so lets see. We were trying to download some stuff using the bittorrent client µTorrent and was gettng about 0.5kbps of ‘mind blowing’ download speed.

My friend and I got into argument – he saying that we should use Azureus as its trackers are more fast according to him. I tried to explain to him that no matter what client we used we would usually get the same speed according to the rules set by the seeds about our upload to download ratio or our upload speed. All the clients strive to provide the best performance or else no one would use that client – right? I settled for µTorrent after much research about which client I should use for torrent downloads. It provided the best bang for my memory and cpu usage. Azureus was great as long as you had a good pc. Sometime Azureus was high on memory and cpu usage due to its JRE dependency. This was what I was trying to prove to my dear friend that Azureus was indeed great, but why should we use an application that takes up more resources when an equally good application is available that is light on the system.

Neways I decided one should not stick to one application based just on some assumptions. So I decided to test Azureus too and its qued in download to be tested soon. Lets see how it compares with µT.
