How To: Get a Copy of Yahoo Messenger for Offline Install

Posted at 1:23 am on Saturday, November 3rd, 2007 | Posted in Tech

For someone who re-installs his operating system every weekend like me downloading the whole messenger and installing it every time could be a real pain. So I found a way to keep a copy of yahoo messenger installation file after I finish for future purposes. One can always go to third party sites for these specific files but theres no guarantee that it would be the latest available and definitely no guarantee of security.

  • Download the yahoo web installation file, msgr9us.exe, from Yahoo and execute it.

  • Go through these screens.

  • Pay attention when the following screen shows up.
  • Go to the temporary directory to which yahoo messenger install file is being downloaded.

  • You will see a file as shown below.
  • Keep refreshing this folder with F5 key until the above download progress bar shows 100%.
  • The file will then be converted into ymsgr9us.exe of 12.7MB which is the required installation file.
  • Copy(Ctrl+C) this immediately and Paste(Ctrl+V) it in another folder or better paste in on the desktop.

Now you have a perfectly working up-to-date copy of yahoo messenger installation file for you install whenever you want. By the way the new messenger is all glossy and eye candy. Great! My favorite IM just got better. I’m not complaining.

Yahoo Messenger is easy. Try Windows Live :((. I got the exe cached hidden temporary but I am unable to run it.

Let you know as soon as I get it done dude. Thanks for the Idea. But I never use Windows Live messenger these days. Its such a pain now that you can add your Hotmail contacts and even chat with them.
