Air Tickets Guide: Where are the cheap tickets?

// November 6th, 2007 // 8 Comments » // General

These are a collection for links for Air Ticket booking, checking for cheap flights and for viewing all available flights.

Available Flights and Prices:

  • ITA Software’s Fare Shopping Engine – One of the best systems out there that shows all available/possible flights between two possible cities. The Pricing system might not be exact but its very to the actual prices that you might incur. Does not include booking. You can email the itenary to your agent so that he may book the flights for you.
  • ORBITZ – Almost as good as the ITA’s Software with a clean and easy to understand interface.
  • Travelocity – Looks like a copy of ORBITZ. Shows high prices.
  • Expedia – I don’t thing you need to go here. No great search results. Not many airlines supported nor the prices here great.
  • FareCompare.com – Another great site to compare air fares.
  • ezeego1 – Site specifically for the Indian market. Search Flight. And find great prices too. You can book tickets and have them mailed to you directly.
  • Yatra.com – Also a good Indian site for searching flight and booking tickets online. Both these solutions eliminate the need for a travel agent.

Airline Seat Descriptions:

  • SeatGuru.com – Not all airline seats are the same. Thats what I learned after I gave this a visit. Even if all the seats are in the same economy class on the same flight. Some are wider at the shoulders. Some seats have larger leg space. And then there are aisle and windows seats.

Google Finance: MTA?

Google Finance Beta logo
Everyone knows MIA(Missing In Action). So whats MTH? Missing The Action. Thats what exactly Google Finance is doing. Google Finance India or the lack of it, is going to be a big blow for Google as other competing services like Yahoo Finance already hold the majority of the market in this segment. They have no mention of it anywhere, not even on their Google Finance Blog.

Indian Stock Market seems to be the place where all the current action is. Beating China and attracting FII’s is contributing greatly in India reaching a historic sensex milestone of 20000 points. The sensex journey from 5000 to 20000 is as follows:

20,000 – Oct 29,2007
19,000 – Oct 15,2007
18,000 – Oct 9,2007
17,000 – Sep 26,2007
16,000 – Sep 19,2007
15,000 – July 6,2007
14,000 – Dec 5,2006
13,000 – Oct 30,2006
12,000 – Apr 20,2006
11,000 – Mar 21,2006
10,000 – Feb 6,2006
9,000 – Nov 28,2005
8,000 – Sep 8,2005
7,000 – Jun 20,2005
6,000 – Feb 11,2000
5,000 – Oct 8,1999

The year 2007 has been a dream run for Indian Stock market as it has risen from nearly 14000 points to 20000 points. It also saw the fastest rise of 1000 points from 18000 to 19000. Foreign investors seeing India as a strong and stable market insulated from the world financial storms has led to this strange but welcome addition wealth.

Yahoo Finance India has been the only provider for live quotes free of charge. While Google has been reporting other improvements like API, Gadgets and pricing data for Australia and New Zealand it is still missing the bigger pie. Google finance is often cited as an example of an unsuccessful foray into a web service beyond web search.

To top it all, Google Finance is one of the rare Google products developed entirely offshore. It is developed in India at its Bangalore center. It is hilarious that it is not able to provide quotes for the Indian market.

How To: Get a Copy of Yahoo Messenger for Offline Install

// November 3rd, 2007 // 5 Comments » // Tech

For someone who re-installs his operating system every weekend like me downloading the whole messenger and installing it every time could be a real pain. So I found a way to keep a copy of yahoo messenger installation file after I finish for future purposes. One can always go to third party sites for these specific files but theres no guarantee that it would be the latest available and definitely no guarantee of security.

  • Download the yahoo web installation file, msgr9us.exe, from Yahoo and execute it.

Labels and Bookmarks in Google Notebook

bookmarks in google notebook

Google Notebook added the most requested feature: labels. Now you can label each note and see all the notes that have a certain label. The application imports all the labels and web pages from Google Bookmarks and places them in a new notebook titled “Unfiled”. Adding a new note in this special notebook actually creates a new bookmark.

The organization of a notebook is more flexible: the notes can be sorted by date, by label and filtered by label. Google Notebook’s extension was also updated and has a new option: select the text from a web page and click on the small star to add it as a note. Now you can use the extension to add bookmarks by clicking on the star when the “Unfiled” notebook is selected.

I Got IMAP!

// November 2nd, 2007 // No Comments » // General

Gmail silently rolled out IMAP into my email account today. No popup informing me of my prize nor any redirect page. I have been drooling over screenshots since two weeks now as all others blogged about it and I was just watching.

Now I have to wait till I get the New Gmail in my account with all the perks included.
