Facebook Chat and Why I Think It Sucks!

Its a rat race. That’s what it is. I do not seem to get the point why Facebook needed a chat window for its already cluttered and lame looking interface. Google has chat. Microsoft has chat. So may be they thought lets get chat too.
The online friends functionality it shows was already available. And if you see a friend online you can always post a message on his wall. And he can reply back if he wants to, then and there. Its not like you need an entirely separate area for chat, some other area for posting walls and yet another area where you send messages. I mean wall posts are public and messages are private – I can understand them. But why in the name of god do you need chat?
Loading ...There was one blog the other day where I see people whining about no “folders” in Gmail in the comments. Gmail has labels. Why do you need folders? And what is the point of different webmail clients if they all look, feel and offer the same? If you cannot live without your “folders”, please DO NOT use Gmail. What I don’t need right now is Google doing something stupid and adding a chat interface as default to Orkut, just because Facebook has chat too.

there us nothing wrong with having chat on facebook.. infact using walls and inbox to send messages shits me as its not INSTANT and it spams you emails but i wont turn the email notifications as i wanna know if i got a message while offline… my only issue with facebook caht is its buggy as all buggery
i like the concept, but the excecution is RUBBISH.

I absolutely hate the frustration I must endure when attempting to use the chat feature on FaceBook. It consistently shuts down every other time I try to send a response to a friend. I start every new conversation with ” I’ll pre-warn you, my chat window will pop me offline in a minute or so. Sorry… Google says it’s FaceBooks’ fault.”
Windows Messenger Live…That’s highly reliable, and my preferred choice.

Facebook Chat is brutal. You can’t resize the window, you can’t move it out of the way, you can’t save the conversation. Mr. Zuckerberg talks a lot about how many engineers Facebook has but, honestly, can anyone tell by looking at the dog’s breakfast of an interface they’ve foisted upon us?
I think facebook is good for chat try and see
The reason I think the facebook chat sucks is that there is no reminder that you get the damn message (other than a small “new message from X person”). No orange blink in the bottom of the screen like most IM services, at least on windows.
I disagree with the reasons why you find the facebook chat to be bad, since the explaination is rather simple (you wrote about the wall here) and the reason people don’t use the messages that often, is because they don’t want to fill up their inboxes.
The reason I think it sucks is, as mentioned before, that it’s hard to know when you recive a message. I’m usually sitting online with a few convos on MSN open while also on facebook, and not always looking at my browser has gotten some people really mad, because THEY don’t use a chat where you’re properly informed that you recive a message. Especially because some people i chat with are that fucking stupid “now that we’re friends on facebook, we don’t need any other place to chat”, then get angry when i miss their messages.
I agree on the layout.
Facebook chat is deliberately awkward and bad to use so as people continue to prefer posting to the wall, which keeps everything mass-visible and opens it up to lots more people, thus people mass-visibly replying and feeding back into the crowd etc etc….
Bit of a sham. No-one seems to bother anymore with skype or any other chat applets which is a shame because my interactions were much better with people one to one without all the showing off to the crowd..
Facebook chat sucks. It keeps on duplicating your messages and every time you try to send a response to someone who’s also using the service, it keeps on telling you that you’re offline even though the green button is there. wth.
