Power Outage at San Francisco State University

An unexpected power outage left much of San Francisco State University in darkness. I work for one of the campus systems departments and we had to literally run to our server room to shutdown our servers due to the fear that they might just set themselves on fire due to loss of cooling or there might be data loss.

It started with flickering of lights and the power went out completely at around 10:30AM. People were left wondering whether they should leave for the day or wait for the power to return, since it was a Friday. The power was eventually restored at around 11:40AM. Many of the campus systems like email, websites and other essentials are still down. The reason for the power outage is yet unknown.

It was good though to just stroll outside on the campus in the middle of the work day with nothing else to do.
