District 13: Ultimatum Trailer

I never thought that they’d make another District 13 movie. Or Banlieue 13 for the french. So I was pleasantly surprised and excited when I saw the new District 13 Ultimatum Trailer on Apple.com trailers.

Update: The movie’s already out on some torrent sites. WTF?!?

500GB External Storage – Leech On!

All those torrent downloads and Netflix DVD backups left me with almost no space on my laptop hard drive. For the record I currently have 80 movies on my hard drive. So at last I decided I should get external storage. I got a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 500GB Hard Drive for $100 and EAGLE ET-CSESU2-BK Aluminum 3.5″ Black USB 2.0 External Enclosure for about $12 – The total setup was delivered to me in 3 days by Newegg.com and they work great. You can say that I would not need a 7200RPM drive with 32MB cache for external storage since the USB 2.0 speeds are no where near hard drive speeds. But still I see this as a future investment for my desktop.

You can see that with the total number of drive partitions I have I’m almost running out of alphabets. What if I had more drive partitions than the number of alphabets? I’ve never seen what Windows would do in that scenario. My current plan is triple a boot system with Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows XP Professional and Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Future plans include a quad boot with Mac OS X Leopard. Mac on my Dell Vostro … Hmm.

Heath Ledger Dies

News Happens. You Blog about it or you don’t but news doesn’t stop for you. And sometimes it has to be something grave about something that you’ve liked, to jerk you back into existence and start blogging again.

Heath Ledger, one of my favorite actors, was found dead in his apartment in New York with pills near his body. The Police are contemplating a possible drug overdose as an autopsy is being conducted. For a while now I was thinking of posting a small article on him. We’ll now I know thinking is not writing.What I wanted to write about was how similar four people can look. I always confused between Heath Ledger, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon and John Cena(the wrestler). Just Google for their facial images and see for yourselves, you’ll know what I’m talking about. They look so much alike. But I guess now I have one person less in my list of confusee’s.

Whatever the role, big or small and whatever the movie good, bad and even very bad ones, Heath Ledger did them with style and a certain coolness that only he had. I’ve like watched so many of his movies and am yet to find some fault with him which I normally do with all the actors. We’ll all I can say is R.I.P dude, you rock(ed)!

IMDB Redesigned – Gets Better!

As I opened IMDB today I was in for a pleasant surprise. This movie site to which I have been accustomed to for years has changed! So I checked out the main page to find this message from the IMDB developers:

AXN Banned In India!

AXN, a mainstream action/adventure reality channel has been banned till March 15th by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India. The reason quoted by I&B Ministry is that the channel has been broadcasting a program “World’s Sexiest Commercials” which was against good taste and decency and that it was adversely affecting the public morality.

AXN is primarily an action channel with a lot of reality programs along with a few of my personal favourites Guinness World Records, The Amazing Race, WRC and other stuff. The program in question used to be broadcast in the 11 P.M. slot which is not prime time in India. These were creative ads with a little sexual imagery and overtones but they never showed too much skin. Also interestingly the I&B proposed a broadcast bill allowing adult content after 11PM. This move made by the ministry seems to contradict its own views about what should be telecast. On second thought who in the name of hell is the I&B ministry to tell viewers what to watch and what not to. Whatever happened freedom, rights and other such amnesty stuff?

The question here is why has the Government taken such a drastic step for so small an issue. There are numerous other channel which show nude to semi-nude programmes on prime time space. No steps have ever been taken against them let alone banning them from transmission and re-transmission for such a long period. The last time such a step was taken is to ban a Russian pornographic channel from airing in India. Because of one small issue the people are being denied the choice of viewing their favorite programs. Rather it should’ve asked the channel to discontinue airing of the particular program instead of completely banning it. The Amazing Race Asia, yes Asia, is in the final round. There seems to be something bigger going on than just the moral policing of the I&B. Just because they can, they should not go about banning every other channel since it was inappropriate for some politicians two year old grandson. As Spiderman says “With Great Power, Come Great Responsibility”.
