Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw

I used to have a Nikon D90 Digital SLR camera and I usually had the image output set to JPEG+RAW which produces a JPEG image and a RAW image simultaneously whenever I take a picture. For post-processing I used Adobe Photoshop CS4. But the first time I tried to open a RAW image it gives you an error message that says, “could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document” and exits.

Here’s the step-by-step fix:

  • Exit Adobe Photoshop CS4.
  • Download the Camera Raw plug-in from the Adobe site.
  • Extract it if its in a zip file.
  • You should have a single file with a .8bi extension now.
  • Move this file to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\File Formats, assuming that you have Adobe Photoshop CS4 installed using the default path.
  • Re-open Adobe Photoshop CS4.

You should be able to open RAW files like any other files now.

Behind the Camera

There are two sides to the story of owning a camera.

On the positive side, you’ll have lots of good pictures and the opportunity to just go and shoot pictures whenever you want to. And experiment.

But on the other side, you end up having almost zero pictures with you in them. None at all. 🙁

The other day I wanted to change my profile picture on one of the social networking sites and I was going through my huge archive of pictures I took over the past couple of months. I barely had any pictures.

Just writing out loud here.

My Own Photo Blog

I’ve been thinking for while whether or not post the pictures I take these days, as a new found hobby, to my blog. After this picture came out fine I decided that I should.

25 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco

This is from 25 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco, CA. I took this picture on my way to the CostCo to get some groceries for the coming month. This building, as I came to know, houses a lot of government offices.

Edit:

Never mind the photoblog. A few months after this post I’ve upgraded from a Point and Shoot camera to a prosumer level Nikon D90 DSLR. But having a separate photoblog is such a pain. So I’ll just upload them to Flickr and link them here. Much better option.
